I initially had a great experience with this product for 7 months. However, one of the plastic guides on the top part came off, causing the mechanism to occasionally jam and allow flies and insects into the food. Amazon was unhelpful, so I reached out to the manufacturer directly. Update: Surefeed customer service provided fantastic support and sent me a replacement lid free of charge. My feeder is now working perfectly again, and I am back to giving it a 5-star rating. The 2-year warranty gives me peace of mind. I bought this feeder to address a problem with my outdoor cat eating in the porch. Leaving out a bowl of food would make it go bad or attract unwanted pests. I was concerned about scaring my cat with this device, but he took to it quickly. It’s amusing to watch him trigger the sensor and then patiently wait for the flap to open. The seal effectively keeps the food fresh and prevents waste. It has also deterred other cats from stealing his food. Cleaning is easy, and there is a training mode for timid cats. I highly recommend this product to all cat owners. I deducted one star because batteries were not included and I had to buy c-cell batteries separately.

I really like this bowl, but a lot of the components are fragile, low-quality plastic and they will definitely break within a short period of time. After a little over a year, the “stay open” button, which I use for cleaning and swapping out empty bowls, stopped working. Two out of the four legs on the side guide pieces have broken off. In my previous bowl, I had to make a makeshift fix for the plastic piece connecting the motor and the lid rotator because it broke. I even bought two stainless steel bowls to replace the plastic one so that I could clean them better, including occasionally putting them in the dishwasher to sanitize. This bowl used to be priced at around $70 and was worth that, but now, at $130, it’s not worth the price anymore. SureFeed, please upgrade the critical parts to metal so that they last longer.

I have a few pointers to share about this product. First, it is important to heed the instructions when they advise you to “go slow” during the training process. We have a feral barn cat and I wanted to prevent flies from getting into his wet food. This product works wonderfully for that purpose. However, I made the mistake of assuming that the cat would be comfortable with the moving motion right away. Unfortunately, rushing the training process scared him and it took me over a month to get him accustomed to it. If I had followed the directions and not frightened him, the adjustment period would have been shorter.
To ensure smooth movement, I used olive oil or Pam on the “rollers”. The battery life is decent, but it’s a good idea to keep an eye on it. I recommend wiping down the sensors with a damp paper towel on a daily basis.
Overall, this product definitely keeps flies out!

  4. Derm

It is perfect. It no longer meows to ask for its food, it goes straight to the food bowl, and the food stays fresh all day. I recommend it.

  5. N. Pace

I am really pleased with this feeder as it effectively keeps unwanted bugs away and helps to maintain the freshness of both dry and wet food. It has a sensor that only opens when my cat is nearby, which took her about 2 days to get used to. I appreciate that the flap opens slowly and that there is a training mode for easy introduction. Cleaning is a breeze too. I also purchased an additional bowl with a divider for separating wet and dry food. The only downside is that it is battery operated; a plug option would have been great. Overall, I am very happy with this product. It is important to leave some space between the wall and the feeder to ensure proper functioning of the sensors and to allow easy access for pets.

  6. N. Pace

I initially had doubts about this product, but it actually exceeded my expectations!! The training feature is fantastic as it is user-friendly and made it effortless for my cat to get accustomed to the feeder. The only drawback for me is that it requires C batteries. However, it effectively keeps my cat’s food fresh and reduces any unpleasant odors.
Update 6/5/20 – I am still in love with this product. However, the sensor recently stopped working. Fortunately, the customer service was outstanding!! They promptly responded and assisted me in resolving the issue. Thanks to the warranty, I received a free replacement for my unit. Overall, this is an excellent product!

We purchased this bowl 1.5 years ago and it has been working perfectly since then. We only had to replace the batteries once during that time. Our cat’s favorite wet food has a strong scent, and our cat tends to eat slowly – a few bites and then walks away. The automatically closing bowl prevents the odor from spreading throughout the apartment, keeping the food fresh for a long time. Our cat is very skittish, but the bowl is so quiet and opens peacefully, that she learned to eat from it in 3-4 days.

  8. Iwona

The smell of the wet food for our cats bothered us quite a bit, so we decided to look for a “food bowl with a lid.” The SureFeed bowl delivers on its promise; the lid opens and closes reliably, the food smells significantly less and stays fresh for longer. Our cats understood the concept immediately and were not scared by the opening and closing of the lid – they didn’t need the “training mode.” Of course, the bowl was not exactly a bargain at €87.40, but it was definitely worth the money. The bowl is easy to clean. One downside is that it can only be battery operated; a power plug would be nice. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with it.
Update: After four months, the flap stopped opening properly. After contacting the manufacturer directly, we were promptly sent a new device.

  9. Derm

I received this product less than 24 hours after placing my order and was excited to set it up. I bought it because it’s summer and there is an unusually high number of flies this year, causing me to waste a lot of wet food – which is disgusting. I figured if there was a magic wet food feeder that flies couldn’t get to, it would be available on Amazon. I’m impressed with how well-designed and sleek it is, and it doesn’t take up much space. The dish size is perfect for a cat.
However, my 12-year-old cat was very scared when she saw the feeder with the moving flap. She immediately ran into one of the bedrooms and hid under a bed. It took some time for her to come back and approach the feeder, and even then, she would get all puffed up and cautious. I read through the reviews and tried leaving her food in a separate dish in front of the feeder with the door open. I had to sit with her and encourage her to come closer to the feeder. She would eat from the other dish but ignore the food in the new feeder because it scared her. Finally, after about 5 days, she started eating from the feeder without getting scared or anxious.
I absolutely love this feeder and the person who designed it deserves recognition. It has eliminated flies, keeps the food fresh, and eliminates the smell of wet food. It even works for a cat that is easily scared.

I have two sister cats who are very timid, so I took the recommended training process very slowly. The outcome is that both cats now eat from these devices without any issues. I purchased two since my cats prefer different types of food. Both units work well, although I have noticed that one of them opens and closes slightly slower than the other.
The instructions are easy to comprehend. The gray single bowl that comes with the device is simple to clean. As my cats are indoor-only, I have not had any issues with bugs in the house, although I do get gnats due to an abundance of houseplants. However, I have never noticed any gnats inside the pet bowl when I remove it to clean.
The main advantage for me, and the reason I decided to take a chance on this product, is that my cats primarily eat canned food. They also prefer to eat a little bit, then come back to the food later. Living in a dry climate, their food would dry out before they returned to it, and they would give me a blaming look. This device keeps the food moist for a couple of hours, saving me money by not having to dispose of wasted food. For convenience, I ordered a couple of extra bowls. One of my cats also enjoys having a bit of dry food during the day, so I got a divided bowl for her. I have been using these SureFeeds for almost two months now, and I have no complaints. However, I believe a stainless steel bowl with an attached sealing ring would be preferable.

  11. Jolly Rogers

I had a really bad experience with this product. Firstly, it had trouble detecting my cat, especially because she has a dark coat. Secondly, even when she managed to get recognized, the unit would close up on her while she was eating. I put up with these issues because it kept her wet food fresh, but it was frustrating. And now, after just 8 months, the unit has completely stopped working. I’ve tried everything to get it to open, but it’s unresponsive. Sometimes resetting it worked temporarily, but the same problem would always come back. Overall, I am extremely disappointed with this product. It’s only been 8 months and it’s now just a $50 bowl holder for me. I removed the lid so I could at least use it for something. I definitely don’t recommend buying it.

  12. Taylor Willingham

This product has been a game-changer for my 19-year-old cat who has struggled with throwing up and being picky about her food. She would only eat fresh food and would get sick if she ate too much. However, thanks to this amazing device, she can now sleep peacefully and eat without any issues. It did take some time for her to learn how to use it, and there were a few hiccups with the door not opening correctly during training. However, within a week or two, she got the hang of it. The best part is that it’s incredibly easy to clean, and I even purchased a second bowl with a divider for convenience. It runs on C batteries, but there’s an indicator to let you know when they’re running low. We’ve been using it for two months now, and it’s been a great investment. I highly recommend this product, especially for those who have tried other options that their cats didn’t like. The shallow design of the bowl is perfect for my cat and makes cleaning a breeze.
